Episode 47 – What Restaurant Success Looks Like with Eric Cacciatore

This is episode 47 of The Restaurant Coach Podcast, it is the cure for the common restaurant. I am a believer that success leaves clues and patterns. If you are a savvy operator, you’ll keep you eyes open to these clues much like a detective works a case, piecing together the common thread to solve the mystery. I can tell you that will 100% certainly that restaurant success is not rocket science, it’s people science. The Restaurant Freedom Formula™ is my signature roadmap that can help you break free from your restaurant running you. How would more profits and more time for what matters to you change your life. I talked to a restaurant owner the other day who is a single father trying to turn around his struggling restaurant that does close to $2M in sales and get his profits are slipping away to almost nothing. I hear these stories all the time and the sad part is that his solution is to throw more hours into work hoping that things turn around. Working harder is not the answer. It’s working smarter. You have heard the common saying that you need to work on your business and not in your business. Well, how exactly do you do that? You need a roadmap that will develop the three pillars that all successful restaurants understand: Culture, Systems, and Strategy. You are invited to book a 1:1 call with me personally to discuss where your restaurant is now, where you want to be in 90-days, and let’s create a plan to get you there. Just go to my website at www.therestaurantcoach.com

Remember that it’s the people that make or break a restaurant. And the man who can help shed some insight into those people problems is Eric Cacciatore, the host of the popular restaurant podcast Restaurant Unstoppable! Eric has interviewed over 690 people for his show and has traveled over 50,000 miles in two last few years meeting people and sharing their stories. I have been honored to be a guest on Eric’s podcast a couple times and In today’s episode I turn the tables around and I get to interview him! There are quite a few gold nuggets in this episode so let’s jump into the interview….

Episode 45 – Your Leadership Superpower with Brian Duncan

Welcome to The Restaurant Coach Podcast! It is the cure for the common restaurant! This is episode 45 and today I am joined by my good friend, restaurateur, and wine god…and also the happiest man I know: Brian Duncan.

But before we jump into the conversation let’s talk about potential…your potential. The number one thing that will change your restaurant, change your life, change your money, change your relationships is you must raise your standards. Your restaurant and your life right now is a reflection of what you tolerate. Are you happy with that? If yes, that’s great! If your are not, you have to raise your standards and keep them up there. We all start out when we open our restaurant with high standards and as we get beat down from life and negative energy vampires we slow start to lower our standards until we lose who we are and what we stand for. We compromised and sold out. Well, it’s time to take it back. Time to get the restaurant and life you know you are capable of. Time to turn all those things you know you should do into a must do. You know what I’m talking about: you should workout, you should eat better, you should get more sleep, you should cost out your menu, you should fire that low performer on your team. You should and should and should all over yourself every single day. It’s time to stop shoulding and start doing.

You know that you should work on your business instead of in your business. So, how exactly do you do that? It starts with a conversation. Go to my website www.therestaurantcoach.com and schedule a call with me personally. We’ll discuss where your restaurant is now, where you want to be in the next 90-days, and I’ll give you a crystal clear plan to get it. You just need to take a little action and schedule a call. Now, let’s jump into my conversation with Brian Duncan and what is your superpower to getting the restaurant you want!

Episode 44 – Why Service Sucks with Kelley Jones

Welcome to The Restaurant Coach Podcast! It is the cure for the common restaurant! This is episode 44 and today I am joined by legendary restaurateur Kelley Jones of Kelley Jones Hospitality in Las Vegas. But before we jump in, allow me to go on a little rant about leadership. Leadership is the ability to put others before yourself. It is the ability to see potential in others and help them raise their standards so they play at a higher level. So many managers call themselves leaders when in fact they are just followers. They just maintain the status quo and don’t push the edge to move the brand forward. You need a true leader in your restaurant. If you are not that person, it’s okay to admit it. It’s not okay not to do anything about it. I know plenty of restaurant owners that should not be the leader of their organization, yet they refuse to step aside and allow a true leader to take the reigns and build the brand. If you are an owner, you don’t have to be the leader. You can just be the owner! I also know plenty of restaurant owners that have realized that their strength is not running the restaurant. Entrepreneurs are wired differently. Most are great at the startup stuff. They suck at the teamwork stuff. Sometimes the greatest thing you can do is admit you are not the best person for a job and then replace yourself.

You have probably heard many times that you need to work on your business instead of in your business.

Now, let’s jump into my conversation with Kelley Jones and why Service Sucks in America!

Today I want to talk about what is standing in your way from getting the restaurant and life you want. I know that running a restaurant is tough. Being a leader is tough. I mean that. It’s hard to get up, get motivated, and head to work trying to keep your energy high while running a restaurant. Some days you feel like you got this under control and other days you feel like your restaurant runs you.

What separates those good days from the bad days? It’s your mindset. Okay, that sounds basic and boring… but it’s the truth. You determine the success or failure of each day by the meaning you attach to each situation that pops up.

These mental traps are the biggest obstacle you will face.

Episode 39 – You Are Your Restaurant

Welcome to The Restaurant Coach Podcast, it is the cure for the common restaurant. In this fast and furious episode, I wanted to share the story about how the title to my first book Your Restaurant Sucks came to be and how you are your restaurant.

The day your journey to get the restaurant you want begins when you make a real decision. Now, to help you get started you need to have a realistic picture of where your restaurant is now. I developed The Restaurant CheckUp as a tool that will tell you what stage your restaurant is at now. There are four stages of restaurant success that all restaurants fall into. You’re either struggling, surviving, thriving, or driving within your market. Each stage has its symptoms and keys to success. With the right action plan you can navigate from one stage to the other. With the right elements in place you can stay at those upper levels. It’s free to take the Restaurant CheckUp and you can access the link to take it at my website www.therestaurantcoach.com head over today and take the CheckUp. It only takes 10 minutes. And with that, I close with this. Restaurant become better when the people in them become better people. That starts with you.

Episode 38 – Rethinking Business Models with Craig Shelton

Welcome to The Restaurant Coach™ Podcast it is the cure for the common restaurant. I have to say that one of the best things about networking and speaking to people who play the game at high levels is that they challenge you to rethink your mindset and to challenge the way you view your model of the world. My guest today is really going to shake up the way you look at your restaurant and what is your real propose. Remember that the truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off. There is so much wisdom in this episode that you will want to download it and share some of the ideas with your team. Challenge yourself to look at your business differently and you may find some new answers that can shift your restaurant to new levels. I also have to give credit for Craig for making this interview possible. He is working with a client and they lost power so he went next door and called in from a loading dock to make this happen. So there might be a little background noise. However, this information is so powerful that you’ll want to pay attention. That’s what great leaders do they take the current situation and adapt to get results.

With that, let me introduce today’s guest:

I am honored to have Craig Shelton. His resume is quite deep: CEO of Shelton Hospitality Group, CEO of Aeon Hospitality Consulting, and founder of King’s Row Coffee. He is also an instructor at Princeton University and winner of the 2000 James Beard Award for Best Chef.

My favorite takeaway from this interview: “The actions of the service team must not harm the client’s agenda.”

In closing…
